We collect thousands of pounds of food every two months. Where does it go?
ONE QUESTION THAT KEPT SURFACING as we were planning our Neighborhood Food Project was where will the food go?
During our first year of operation we donated our food to the Community Resource Center (CRC) in Encinitas. The CRC serves more than 6,400 people each year with emergency assistance, domestic violence emergency shelter, counseling, housing stability and access to food. The Food and Nutrition Program Manager told us what food or personal care items they needed and we collected those items. The items we collected ended up on the shelves in the CRC’s food pantry which serves those in need in our community.

During our second year in operation the CRC found themselves without warehouse room and asked us to skip a delivery or two. We knew that we needed to keep our project going and reached out to St. Andrews Episcopal Church Food Pantry and Equation Collaborative to see if they were in need of donations. They were both thrilled to work with us.
St. Andrews Episcopal Church Food Pantry opens their doors every Thursday to offer the community a supermarket-style food pantry. They provide fresh produce, baby food, meat, canned goods, rice, beans, etc. They welcome anyone in need.
Equation Collaborative strengthens communities by creating and managing program that work alongside community partners to increase capacity, access and opportunity. The NCSD Food Project donates to +Box which fights food insecurity by working with school districts to augment school nutrition programs with boxes of nutrient rich foods.
Our Project donates to each of the food pantries two times per year. As of 4/2023 we had donated approximately 15,000 pounds of food. And we are still going strong!
