Our
Story

The North County San Diego (NCSD) Neighborhood Food Project was created in November 2020. It was spearheaded by a former Medford, Oregon, resident who had been a block coordinator for the Medford Food Project 10 years ago. The NCSD Neighborhood Food Project is modeled after the one in Oregon but is unique in that it started in a community of condominiums in Encinitas CA. Instead of neighborhood coordinators, the Encinitas NCSD has block coordinators who actively seek food donors on their block or surrounding blocks.  They deliver their collected food items to Encinitas Community Resource Center Food, St. Andrews Episcopal Church Pantry and Equation Collaborative +Boxes.

NCSD Encinitas began in March 2021 with fourteen block coordinators covering 17 blocks in a community with over 500 residents.  By December 2022, they had 20 block coordinators and averaged 180 bags at each pick-up. We know how important this food project is and our vision is to see it include all of North San Diego County. Contact us if you want to be part of this important movement. You can live in a condominium, private home, apartment or mobile home park. Everyone is welcome!

The North County San Diego (NCSD) Neighborhood Food Project was created in November 2020. It was spearheaded by a former Medford, Oregon, resident who had been a block coordinator for the Medford Food Project eight years ago. The NCSD Neighborhood Food Project is modeled after the one in Oregon but is unique in that it is starting in a community of condominiums in Encinitas CA. Instead of neighborhood coordinators, we have block coordinators who actively seek food donors on their block or surrounding blocks. And, instead of delivering our filled bags to a food bank, as they do in Oregon, we are working with the Encinitas Community Resource Center Food and Nutrition Center.

We began in March 2021 with fourteen block coordinators covering 17 blocks in a community with over 500 residents. Our goal is to include all 25 blocks in our community and then to spread. We know how important this food project is and our vision is to see it include all of North San Diego County.
